Disney’s “Mufasa: The Lion King” has officially ended its theatrical run in the U.S. with a domestic total of $254.6 million and a global haul of $722 million. In its 17th week, the film grossed a final $2,500 across just over 30 U.S. theaters, according to box office analyst Luiz Fernando.
The film’s 17-week run outlasted major titles such as “Sonic the Hedgehog 3” and “Moana 2,” underlining its sustained appeal and strong legs in a competitive market.
In Nigeria, “Mufasa: The Lion King” has entered its 18th weekend in cinemas. Although now showing in only a handful of theaters, such as Silverbird Cinemas at Jabi Lake Mall, SEC Abuja and Kaduna, and Viva Cinema. The film continues to attract audiences despite strong competition from both international and local releases, including “Labake Olododo,” “A Working Man,” “Reel Love,” “Captain America: Brave New World,” and “Radio Voice.”
As of Week 10, the film still held a Top 5 spot on the Nigerian box office charts, competing with newer entries like “Something About the Briggs” and “Summer Rain.”
While its 18th weekend is unlikely to significantly move the needle on its current ₦620 million-plus total, “Mufasa: The Lion King” is poised to end its run as one of the longest-surviving international films in Nigerian cinema in recent times.
