Predator Badlands, the ninth film in the long-running sci-fi horror franchise, has officially become the series’ highest-grossing domestic release.
The milestone was reached after the film earned $13 million in its second weekend at the U.S. box office. Though this represented a steep 67.8% drop from its $40 million debut, the total was still the largest second-weekend haul for any Predator film.
That push elevated the movie’s domestic cume to $66.3 million, surpassing the original 1987 Predator, which previously held the record with $59.7 million.
Box office analyst Luiz Fernando projects Badlands to finish with no more than $100 million domestically. Globally, the film opened with a four-decade-best $80 million, accumulating $135 million which is a respectable figure considering its $105 million budget.
