According to analyst Luiz Fernando the film pulled in $30 million in North America, securing a second-place finish behind Super Mario’s $190 million opening. This represents a 44.4% drop from its $54 million second weekend, yet still ranks as the seventh-highest third weekend ever for a March release, trailing only titles like Beauty and the Beast ($45.4M), Zootopia ($37.1M), The Batman ($36.7M), Captain Marvel ($34.3M), Alice in Wonderland ($34.2M), and The Hunger Games ($33.1M).
Overseas, Project Hail Mary added $42.1 million, including $5.7 million from China, marking a modest 22% decline from the previous weekend. IMAX continues to drive strong returns, with the film reaching $73.6 million globally in IMAX earnings by its third weekend, surpassing F1’s $73 million at the same stage.
Overall, the film has now amassed $217.2 million in the U.S. and $203.6 million internationally, bringing its global total to $420 million. This positions it just behind China’s Pegasus 3 ($638 million) as the second-highest-grossing film of 2026 so far, though The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is projected to overtake it soon.
Analysts predict Project Hail Mary could finish its theatrical run with a global total of at least $620 million, with some high-end estimates exceeding $700 million. Considering its $190 million production budget, the film is shaping up to be one of the highest-grossing non-franchise releases of the decade.
