The Golden Globes is back to celebrate another groundbreaking year in film and television. As one of Hollywood’s most anticipated award shows, it will kickstart the 2026 award season when it airs on CBS and streams exclusively on Paramount+ on January 11, 2026. Comedian Nikki Glaser returns as host for the ceremony.

The nominations were announced on December 8, 2025, with One Battle After Another leading the pack with nine nominations. It is the most-nominated project, earning top nods in categories including Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy, Best Director for Paul Thomas Anderson, and Best Actor in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy for Leonardo DiCaprio. The film dominated the Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy categories, making history as only the sixth film ever to receive five acting nominations and at least one acting bid across all four acting categories, regardless of genre.
Second on the leaderboard is the film-festival darling Sentimental Value with eight nominations, including Best Motion Picture – Drama. The film makes director Joachim Trier a first-time Golden Globe nominee, earning him double nods for Best Director and Best Screenplay. Next is the period horror film Sinners with seven nominations, receiving top nods for Best Director for Ryan Coogler, Best Motion Picture – Drama, and Best Actor in a Motion Picture – Drama for Michael B. Jordan.

Chloé Zhao’s Shakespearean reimagining Hamnet earned six nominations and also competes for Best Motion Picture – Drama. Notably, Zhao is the only woman nominated for Best Director this year. If she wins, she would become the first woman ever to win the category twice. She previously won for Nomadland in 2021.
Box-office powerhouse Wicked: For Good returns to the Golden Globes with five nominations. Leads Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande are once again nominated for Best Actress and Best Supporting Actress respectively. Collectively, they make history as the first performers to be nominated twice for the same film in the same roles. Erivo also becomes the first Black and Nigerian woman to be nominated twice for Best Actress – Musical or Comedy. Surprisingly, the Broadway adaptation did not receive a Best Director nomination for Jon M. Chu and was notably shut out of the Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy category. However, it secured nominations in Cinematic and Box Office Achievement—which Wicked won last year—and Best Original Song for “No Place Like Home” and “Girl in the Bubble,” both written by Stephen Schwartz.

Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein also earned five nominations, including a surprising Best Actor in a Motion Picture – Drama nomination for Oscar Isaac. Jacob Elordi received a nomination for his role as The Creature in Best Supporting Actor in a Motion Picture – Drama. The Australian actor is among the few double nominees this year; he also scored a Best Actor in a Limited Series nomination for The Narrow Road to the Deep North.
Netflix’s animated global sensation Kpop Demon Hunters unsurprisingly received three nominations, including Best Original Song for the Billboard No. 1 hit “Golden.” The anime world also earned rare recognition as Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle picked up a nomination for Best Animated Motion Picture—making history as the first Shonen Jump property to receive a Golden Globe nomination. It becomes only the fourth anime film to be nominated in this category, following Mirai, Suzume, and The Boy and the Heron. The Ufotable-produced film will compete against Zootopia 2, K-pop Demon Hunters, Elio, Arco, and The Character of Rain.
The biographical sports drama The Smashing Machine was among the biggest surprises with two nominations. Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson earned his first-ever Golden Globe nomination in his four-decade film career for his role as MMA fighter Mark Kerr.
Among the major snubs was the Sydney Sweeney-led Christy, which failed to secure a single nomination. Another surprising omission was Akinola Davies Jr.’s My Father’s Shadow, which was shut out of the Best Motion Picture – Non-English Language category despite widespread acclaim throughout the 2025 award season.

In television, HBO’s The White Lotus earned six nominations, making it the most-nominated series in the running. Parker Posey, Aimee Lou Wood, Walton Goggins, Carrie Coon, and Jason Isaacs all received Best Supporting Performance nominations, while the series itself was nominated for Best Television Series – Drama.
Netflix’s Adolescence follows with five nominations, including Best Supporting Actor for breakout star Owen Cooper. He previously won the Primetime Emmy for Best Supporting Actor in a Limited Series, becoming the youngest male actor to win a Primetime Emmy. Hulu’s Only Murders in the Building and Apple TV’s Severance both earned four nominations. Selena Gomez scored two nominations for Only Murders in the Building: Best Actress in a Television Series – Musical or Comedy, and Best Television Series – Musical or Comedy as an executive producer, bringing her career total to nine.
Billy Bob Thornton’s Landman surprisingly earned no nominations this year, nor did Katherine LaNasa for Best Supporting Actress for The Pitt, despite previously winning a Primetime Emmy in that category. The Last of Us received only one nomination, for lead actress Bella Ramsey, missing out on Best Television Series – Drama and a Best Actor nomination for Pedro Pascal.

In overall studio rankings, Netflix led with 35 nominations across film and television. Following closely was Warner Bros. Pictures, ironically recently acquired by Netflix, with 31 nominations. The Walt Disney Company placed third with 27, followed by Neon with 21.
The Golden Globes also acknowledged the rising influence of podcasts by introducing the new category Best Podcast. Fan favourites such as Call Her Daddy, Armchair Expert with Dax Shepard, SmartLess, and Up First are competing for the inaugural award.
Dame Helen Mirren will receive the Cecil B. DeMille Award for her outstanding contribution to entertainment, while Sarah Jessica Parker will receive the Carol Burnett Award for her exceptional contribution to television.
