Sony Pictures, in conjunction with Marvel Entertainment, is bringing to the big screen the origin story of Kraven, one of the most formidable yet criminally underrated Marvel anti-heroes. “Kraven the Hunter” dives deep into the grass-to-grace life of Kraven, from an abused young boy to a man strong enough to be Spider-Man’s foe.
Playing the titular character is one of Hollywood’s rising stars, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, whose work in action films like “Bullet Train,” and “Kick-Ass” makes him the perfect fit for this role. Joining him in what hopes to be one of the biggest movie event of the year is a talented ensemble of A-listers consisting of Ariana DeBose, Fred Hechinger, Christopher Abbott, Alessandro Nivola, and Russel Crowe.
Academy Award-nominated filmmaker J.C. Chandor will take the director’s chair for this film, with a story written by Richard Wenk. Wenk was tasked with introducing the character of Kraven to audiences who, till the trailer premiered, had never heard of him and his role in Sony’s Spider-Man Universe (SSU).
“Kraven the Hunter” has been in development since 2017, and after a string of delays due to the 2023 SAG-AFTRA strike, it is finally becoming exhibited on Aug. 30 when it will be released theatrically.
