“Aféfé” will debut on BET Africa on Friday, March 8, 2024, before becoming available on YouTube the following day on March 9, 2024.
The film is part of a five-part anthology that aims to explore critical issues surrounding gender equity through powerful narratives intended to resonate across borders.
The story of “Aféfé” follows a beautician whose life takes an unsettling turn when her sick, elderly mother-in-law unexpectedly moves in with her family.
Along with “Aféfé,” the other short films in the “In-Bloom” anthology include “Kifungo,” “Period,” “Alta,” and “Maré,” each tackling subjects like child marriage, period poverty, HIV self-stigma, and women’s empowerment.
The anthology series represents a groundbreaking moment for African cinema by bringing these narratives highlighting gender issues to audiences in Lagos, Nairobi, Mumbai, São Paulo and beyond.
A trailer for “Aféfé” has been released ahead of its premieres on BET Africa this Friday and YouTube on Saturday, building anticipation for the launch of this new film anthology.
