All eyes are on Academy-Award-winning director George Miller as he gears up for the release of the prequel to the “Mad Max” franchise: “Furiosa: A Mad Max Story.”
The highly-anticipated action film, starring Anya Taylor-Joy, Chris Hemsworth, Angus Sampson, Nathan Jones, and Tom Burke, tells the story of how a young Furiosa – the older Furiosa is played by Charlize Theron in the other Mad Max films – is abducted from her hometown by a biker clan led by Warlord Dementus (Hemsworth).
Not only did they abduct her, but they also left her hometown in ruins. She vows to make her way back home, but first, she must take revenge on Dementus.
Taylor-Joy will play the young Furiosa in this film. She rose to success thanks to her critically acclaimed performance as Beth Harmon in “The Queen’s Gambit.” She earned a Golden Globe for the role and went on to star in other successful projects like “Dune: Part Two,” “The Menu,” and “Last Night in Soho.”
The “Mad Max” franchise has earned a whopping $515 million worldwide; 2015’s “Mad Max: Fury Road” won six Academy Awards in 2016 and was named one of the “Best Films of the Decade” by various media outlets.
“Furiosa: A Mad Max Story” will first premiere at the Cannes Film Festival on May 15 before its theatrical release on May 24.
