Hitting Showmax on May 8, the new Kenyan Original series “Big Girl Small World” promises a funny and authentic look at one woman’s journey of self-acceptance.

The 13-episode comedy-drama follows Ciku, a plus-size woman who embarks on a path of self-discovery after a humiliating public scandal. As she navigates this new chapter, she finds out what it truly means to live confidently in a world determined to diminish her.

“Big Girl Small World” comes from an all-female writing team including Angela Ruhinda, Gathoni Kamau, Wanjiru Kairu, Safina Iqbal, and Kui Mwai. The series is directed by Nick Mutuma, whose films “You Again” and “Sincerely Daisy” were both Kalasha-nominated.

Mutuma also serves as series producer alongside Kevin Njue, the filmmaker behind the AMVCA and Kalasha-winning “18 Hours.”

“Our Kenyan audiences have been hungry for shows that truly speak to their experiences,” said Njue. “We were determined to depict this story with total honesty and rawness from an authentic female perspective.”

With a fresh, emerging cast, “Big Girl Small World” joins a slate of new Kenyan Originals hitting Showmax in May, including the second season of “The Real Housewives of Nairobi,” new dramedy “Untying Kantai,” and docuseries “Nilichoma.”

The comedy-drama promises laughs and heartfelt moments when it premieres on May 8.
