Walt Disney Pictures and Pixar Animation Studios are joining forces for the release of “Elio,” an animated feature set to premiere on June 20, 2025.
The story centers on Elio, an imaginative young boy who is unexpectedly transported to another universe, where he forms unlikely bonds with aliens and other intelligent life forms. When he’s mistakenly identified as Earth’s leader, Elio must rise to the occasion and navigate a galaxy-wide crisis.
“Elio” marks Pixar’s 29th animated feature and is directed by Adrian Molina, Domee Shi, and Madeline Sharafian—making it the first Pixar film since “Up” to feature three directors. The film is produced by Mary Alice Drumm.
The voice cast includes recent Oscar winner Zoe Saldana, making her Pixar debut, alongside Yonas Kibreab, Remy Edgerly, Jameela Jamil, Brad Garrett, and Shirley Henderson.

Originally unveiled at the D23 Expo in 2022, “Elio” was initially slated for a 2024 release but was postponed due to the SAG-AFTRA strike that disrupted Hollywood productions.
Visually, the film embraces an art style reminiscent of beloved Pixar titles like “Boo,” “Luca,” and “Turning Red.”
Poised to be a heartfelt and visually stunning journey, “Elio” explores what happens when the human world collides with the vast unknown of the universe.
