Eddie Murphy returns as the iconic Detective Axel Foley in Netflix’s highly anticipated “Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F.” This fourth installment of the classic buddy cop franchise revives the humor and action that made the original a hit.
The trailer, released by Netflix, showcases Foley’s comedic charm as he’s arrested for crashing a stolen helicopter, quipping, “Part of me would rather get locked up than get put in this little Fisher-Price looking squad car.”
The film follows Foley, now facing new challenges in Beverly Hills as his daughter, played by Taylour Paige, is threatened. Teaming up with a new partner, portrayed by Joseph Gordon-Levitt, and reuniting with old allies Judge Reinhold and John Ashton, Foley dives into a conspiracy that tests his unconventional methods. As one detective warns, “You’re pissing off a lot of people,” Foley retorts, “That means we’re getting close.”
Directed by Mark Molloy, making his debut, this film revives a series that began with Murphy’s breakout role in 1984’s “Beverly Hills Cop,” a film that garnered critical acclaim and box office success, earning over $316 million globally. After sequels in 1987 and 1994, which saw diminishing returns, Murphy’s dedication has finally brought the character back to life.
