“Farmer’s Bride” Set for Theatrical Release in September

The film, written and directed by Jack’enneth Opukeme, promises a captivating tale of love and betrayal set in 1980s Ibadan.

Nigerian filmmaker Jack’enneth Opukeme, known for his acclaimed works “Adire” and “Battle on Buka Street,” returns with his latest movie, “Farmer’s Bride.”

 

Co-directed by Adebayo Tijani and set in the vibrant backdrop of 1980s Ibadan, the film explores themes of love, betrayal, and supernatural vengeance.

 

“Farmer’s Bride” follows the story of Odun, a wealthy but lonely farmer, whose only family consists of his late brother’s widow, Morenike, and her son, Femi. Seeking companionship in his old age, Odun marries Funmi, a young bride from a neighboring village. However, Funmi, coerced into the marriage by her mother, Tundun, struggles in the loveless union, sinking into despair and resentment.

 

 

The film features a star-studded cast, including Femi Branch, Tobi Bakre, Gbubemi Ejeye, Mercy Aigbe, Efe Irele, and Wumi Toriola. Ladun Awobokun serves as the supervising producer.

 

“Farmer’s Bride” is slated for release in cinemas on September 27, offering audiences a poignant and dramatic narrative set against the cultural and historical backdrop of Ibadan.
