Guillermo del Toro Presents “Frankenstein” for Netflix Release

A reimagining of Mary Shelley’s timeless Frankenstein is coming to Netflix on November 7, 2025.

Written and directed by visionary filmmaker Guillermo del Toro, the film takes creative inspiration from Shelley’s novel rather than offering a faithful adaptation—crafting a more emotionally poignant narrative than the traditional gothic horror tale.

Frankenstein follows Victor Frankenstein, an ambitious scientist consumed by the desire to play God. In defying natural order, he reanimates a creature caught between life and death, setting off a tragic exploration of morality, love, and consequence. The film delves into the unconventional father-son bond between Victor and the creature, while confronting the ethical weight of invention and the fragility of humanity.

Golden Globe winner Oscar Isaac stars as Victor Frankenstein, with Jacob Elordi taking on the role of The Creature. The ensemble cast also includes Mia Goth, Felix Kammerer, Lars Mikkelsen, and Academy Award winner Christoph Waltz.

Directed and produced by del Toro, Frankenstein features cinematography by Oscar-nominated Dan Lausten.

 Notably, the film premiered at the 82nd Venice International Film Festival on August 30, 2025, to widespread acclaim, before additional screenings at the Busan, BFI London, and Morelia International Film Festivals. Early reviews are glowing, with the film earning an impressive 85% critics’ score on Rotten Tomatoes.

This marks del Toro’s second collaboration with Netflix following his 2022 Academy Award–winning animated adaptation of Pinocchio, which made history as the first animated film from a streaming platform to win Best Animated Feature.
