“Hijack ’93”, a tense and emotionally charged film, is set to premiere on Netflix on October 25, bringing to life the harrowing 1993 hijacking of a Nigerian Airways flight.
Directed by Robert O. Peters and produced by Charles Okpaleke, the film offers a fictional retelling of this shocking event, which saw a group of four men take control of an airplane in their bid to challenge a military-backed government and push for social change.
Starring an ensemble cast of Nollywood talents, the film features Bob Manuel, John Dumelo, Sharon Ooja, Nancy Isime, Jemima Osunde, and Efa Iwara, Adam Garba, Allison Emmanuel, Oluwaseyi Akinola, and Nnamdi Agbo.
Based on the real-life 1993 hijacking carried out by a group of teenagers, “Hijack ’93” aims to capture the raw emotions and high stakes of that day, shedding light on a pivotal moment in Nigerian history.
Producer Charles Okpaleke of Play Network Studios highlighted the importance of preserving such events: “These pivotal moments shaped our nation’s history. As a filmmaker, I believe it’s crucial to share authentic African stories with a global audience to keep our history alive.”
With its gripping plot and powerful performances, “Hijack ’93” is set to leave a lasting impact, reminding viewers of a significant chapter in Nigeria’s political history.
