In the Hand of Dante, is an upcoming Netflix adaptation centred on Nick Tosches’ 2002 eponymous novel starring Oscar Isaac, who plays dual roles as New York author Tosches in the 21st century and Dante Alighieri in the 14th century.
The film follows Nick who is hired by a mafia don to confirm and then steal a priceless manuscript said to be Dante’s original Divine Comedy in the poet’s own hand. This drags Nick into an underworld he’s both repulsed by and complicit in.
Directed by Julian Schnabel, In the Hand of Dante moves between the 21st and 14th centuries, weaving together the lives of Nick and Dante played by Isaac in their obsessive search for love, beauty, and the divine.

Other actors that form the ensemble cast include Sal Sardot, Ibrahim Elouahabi, Gavin Weingarten, Al Pacino, Dario Samac, Martin Scorsese, Duke Nicholson, Giorgia Arena, Gerard Butler, Denise Capezza, Galen Hopper, Jon Malkovich and Vincenzo Leto.
The film previously had its world premiere in competition at the 82nd Venice International Film Festival in September. It was theatrically released in the United States on June 12.
The streaming release is set to be handled by Netflix on June 24.
