Kanayo O Kanayo Takes the Lead in Upcoming Nigerian Original Limited Series, “Agu”

Showmax has announced the release of its latest Nigerian original limited series, “Agu,” which is a legal drama set to premiere on 14 Dec. 2023, with subsequent episodes released on Thursdays.

“Agu” unfolds a tale centered around three main characters: Etim (Kanayo O. Kanayo), a 50-year-old lawyer battling personal demons; Pius (Nonso Odogwu), a practitioner of traditional worship accused of murdering his friend in a forest; and Victoria (Ruby Okezie), an ambitious prosecuting counsel with a complicated history with Etim. The trio becomes entangled in a court case that unravels dark secrets and explores the tension between legal and traditional belief systems.

The series boasts a stellar cast, including Mofe Duncan as Sola, Tina Mba as Judge Akorede, Ireti Doyle as Lola “LS” Lateef Simpson, and ex-Big Brother Titans Housemate, Miracle Op. Director Anis Halloway, a winner of the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA) for projects like “Unmarried” and “Truth,” adds his touch to bring the story to life.

Lead actor Kanayo O Kanayo expressed his enthusiasm for the project, emphasizing its distinctiveness in his illustrious career. “Agu truly stands out. It’s a series that viewers should eagerly anticipate,” he remarked. Kanayo believes that Nigerians will connect with the characters and find resonance in the themes of family bonds and the pursuit of justice depicted in “Agu.”

Director Anis Halloway also shared insights into the series, stating, “Agu is a story that touches on family, justice, and betrayal, all set against the backdrop of the Igbo culture. It’s a compelling limited drama series that resonates with every Nigerian, and the cast has done an incredible job of breathing life into this story.”

“Agu” forms part of Showmax’s December content slate in Nigeria, complementing other releases like Season 2 of the telenovela “Wura” and the Original feature film “School Run.” Additionally, fans can continue to enjoy new episodes of the reality series “The Real Housewives of Lagos Season 2” and a host of other Showmax Nigeria Originals.
