Move over Professor and Tokyo, it is Berlin’s time to shine! Netflix recently announced that its global sensation, and one of the most-watched series of all time, “La Casa De Papel”, also known as “Money Heist,” is getting a spinoff. This time, it will be based on the life of fan-favorite Berlin and his legendary adventures before he assists his younger brother, the Professor (Alvaro Morte) to pull off a grand heist.
Recall that at the end of Season 1, Part 2 of “La Casa De Papel” Berlin sacrificed himself so that the Professor and the rest of the crew could escape from the police after a successful looting of the Royal Mint of Spain.
“Berlin”, as the upcoming series is simply called, will mark the first spinoff among the many that have been planned by Alex Pina, the creator of “La Casa De Papel” and “Berlin.” In an interview with OprahMag.com, he said, “We do have many possibilities for some spinoffs, yes, and I think that’s thanks to the strong and powerful identities of the characters….”
It is only natural that Berlin (also known as Andres de Fonollosa) gets his own series. From the moment he emerged on screen, he captured viewers’ attention with his charm, sophistication, and intellect. A master thief and skillful manipulator, he can pull off heists on scales that even the police can never fathom.
The newly released trailer shows Berlin taking Paris by storm as he attends lavish parties, purchases expensive items, and falls in love with the girl of his dreams. Of course, these expensive habits require expensive income and the only way to get that is through pulling off a grand heist in the city of love.
In typical “La Casa De Papel” fashion, he recruits a band of thieves and together they hatch a plot to rob “one of the top auction houses in all of Paris.” With $44 million worth of jewels on the line, will Berlin and his team come out victorious or will they sign their own death sentences?
Pedro Alonso will reprise his role as the titular character and he will be joined by Najwa Nimri, Itziar Ituno, Julio Pena Fernandez, Tristan Ulloa, Begona Vargas, Michelle Jenner, and Joel Sanchez.
“Berlin” will be released worldwide on Netflix on December 29.
