Netflix is ready to unsettle audiences once more with “Parasyte: The Grey,” a fresh horror venture by Yeon Sang-ho, the creative mind behind “Train to Busan” and “Hellbound.”
Based on Hitoshi Iwaaki’s highly successful manga “Parasyte,” which sold over 25 million copies worldwide, the loose adaptation is slated for an April 5 release.
Penned by Yeon Sang-ho and Ryu Yong-jae and produced by Climax Studio alongside WOW POINT, the sci-fi horror series tells the story of humanity’s struggle of survival against an unidentified parasite invasion bent on parasitizing the human race.
Starring in the show are Jeon So-nee portraying Su-in, a woman not yet accustomed to a world shared by parasites; Lee Jung-hyun as Jun-kyung, the determined leader of Team Grey, committed to exterminating the threat; and Koo Kyo-hwan as Kang-woo.
The two-minute, nineteen-second trailer reeks of alliances, betrayals and the quest for survival, all brought to life with compelling visual effects.
“Parasyte: The Grey” won’t be the first adaptation Sang-ho has handled.
His success with the 2021 series “Hellbound,”–itself a loose adaptation of the Korean Webtoon “Hell”–which briefly dethroned “Squid Game” as Netflix’s top-watched series is a strong CV for doubters of his proficiency.
