“Owambe Thieves”, a new film directed by Adeoluwa Owu and produced by Eniola Ajao, is set to arrive in cinemas nationwide on April 18, 2025.
The story mixes humour with crime, as it follows a young Nigerian couple navigating hardship during one of the country’s toughest economic periods.
Cheta and Lola, a married couple with a newborn, are struggling to survive the recession. As pressure mounts, they take a bold step to turn their lives around, but the plan quickly spirals beyond their control. What begins as a desperate attempt to make money soon draws them into a much larger world of deception, power plays, and unintended consequences.
The film stars Abbey Chile Abuede, Akinwunmi Eniola, Bukola Awoyemi, Denrele Edun, Eniola Ajao, Fathia Balogun, Femi Branch, Foluke Daramola, Hadiza Abubakar, Odunlade Adekola, Samuel Banks, and Seilat Adebowale.
“Owambe Thieves” blends elements of family, suspense, and social commentary while keeping a comedic edge. Its storyline reflects the everyday challenges many Nigerians face, while also exploring how survival instincts can lead to unpredictable outcomes.
The film is one of several local titles competing for audience attention this April.
