Streaming giant Netflix recently unveiled an interesting lineup of upcoming Nollywood originals set to premiere on its service before the year runs out. Amongst the films is “The Black Book,” an action-packed thriller directed by one of Nollywood’s rising stars, Editi Effiong.

Effiong is the founder of the production company Anakle Films which is responsible for films such as “Up North”, “The Set Up”, and “Day of Destiny.” “The Black Book” marks Effiong’s first feature-length film as a director and he had this to say about the project. “Nigeria has a history of drug trafficking, and “The Black Book” explores that from the 80s and how those events in the 80s affect what we have today. It also pays a lot of homage to young people who have endured the most of that violence.”

Richard Mofe-Damijo stars in the lead role as a devoted father and deacon whose loss leads him down a dangerous path of violence and revenge. Justice is his motto as he seeks to fight against the system that failed him and his son. Joining Damijo is a host of other Nollywood heavyweights like Patrick Doyle, Shaffy Bello, Sam Dede, Olumide Oworu, Iretiola Doyle, Taiwo Ajayi Lycett, Bimbo Manuel, Ade Laoye, and Ikechukwu Onunaku.
