Showmax is set to debut its latest Nigerian Original series, “Under the Influence”, on January 24, 2025.
The series offers a compelling exploration of Lagos life, digital fame, and family dynamics, presenting a fresh perspective on the experiences of young Nigerians in the modern digital era.
“Under the Influence” follows the story of Dami, a recent university graduate played by Iremide Adeoye (“WURA”), who relocates to Lagos to live with his older brother, Ayo, portrayed by Bobby Ekpe (“Love Unplanned”). Adjusting to life in a bustling city and grappling with his brother’s expectations, Dami shares an unfiltered social media rant. The post unexpectedly goes viral, propelling him to internet fame and sparking a whirlwind of events that tests his family bonds and personal values.
Directed by Wande Thomas of UrbanGidi (“The Smart Money Woman 2”, “Lara of Lagos”), the series combines humour and drama to portray the complexities of balancing ambition with staying true to oneself. With a talented writing team that includes Isoken Ogiemwonyi, Nengi Diri, Mannie Oiseomaye, and Nicole Chikwe, “Under the Influence” promises authentic storytelling that resonates with Nigerian Gen Z audiences.
The ensemble cast also features Eva Ibiam, Dante Okere, Isioma Okey-Nwosu, and Funmbi Oguntoye, delivering performances that bring the relatable characters to life.
