If you have not been paying close attention to Big Brother Naija Season 11, you may have missed quite a bit. Now in its fifth week, the season has already delivered romance, rivalries, strategic gameplay and unexpected twists, even as its reception has differed from the frenzy surrounding previous editions. With 18 housemates still in the competition, here is everything you need to know so far.
The Money Talk: Biggest Prize in BBNaija History
Season 11 comes with the biggest prize package in Big Brother Naija history, initially valued at ₦160 million. The package includes ₦100 million in cash, a brand-new SUV and additional rewards for the eventual winner.
With Ebuka Obi-Uchendu returning as host, the season has also introduced new layers to the game, forcing housemates to navigate alliances, tasks, nominations and Biggie’s unpredictable interventions while keeping their eyes on the prize.
Meet the Season 11 Housemates
The original 24 housemates brought a diverse mix of professions and personalities into the house, including actors, content creators, entrepreneurs, fashion designers, teachers, a pharmacist, IT professionals and choreographers. The cast also includes a married woman, adding another dynamic to the social experiment.
The original lineup comprised Abi, Aikou, Araga, Barry, Bells, Bluethopia, Cassi, Chimsom Chuka, Flora, Goddessa, Gerard, Kamsy, Keivo, Martins, Mercedes, Neche, Nomy, Oyin, Ricky, Sheba, Sultex, Temi Nkem, Tram and Yusuf.
The Twist Nobody Saw Coming
Before entering the house, the contestants were introduced to a new gameplay twist known as The Gambit. Under the original rules, one male and one female housemate would receive guaranteed spots in the house until the finale, meaning they could not be evicted.
There was, however, a significant catch. Gambits were initially ineligible to win the grand prize.
After viewers voted, Aikou and Flora were selected as the Gambits, securing their places in the game while effectively giving up their shot at the main prize. That arrangement changed in Week 5 when Biggie reversed the decision, restoring their eligibility as active game players and leaving some viewers questioning the purpose of the original twist.
The Money Isn’t Safe Either
Just when the housemates appeared to be getting a handle on the rules, Biggie introduced another major complication: the ₦100 million cash prize could fluctuate during the season.
The cash pot is now affected by task performances and rule violations, meaning the housemates are not only competing to win the money but also trying to protect its value.
The prize took its first major hit following Neche’s voluntary exit from the game on Day 22 due to urgent personal matters. Her departure resulted in a ₦5 million deduction from the cash prize, bringing the total down to ₦95 million.
The Rise of MIPOW
Strategy has also taken on a new dimension with the return of the Most Influential Player of the Week, or MIPOW.
Under the system, housemates assess one another based on their influence on the house dynamics, task performances and overall gameplay. Chimsom Chuka became the first MIPOW titleholder, earning immunity from Week 3 nominations alongside other perks.
The twist has given housemates another incentive to remain visible and involved in the game, proving that influence inside Biggie’s house can be just as valuable as popularity outside it.
Now, Let’s Talk Romance
Five weeks into the season, relationships and potential pairings have become another major part of the conversation. Goddessa, Araga, Bells, Yusuf and Temi Nkem have found themselves at the centre of some of the season’s most discussed romantic storylines.
