Remember when some people tried to tell us dark-skinned women couldn’t wear red lipstick? Yeah, we do too! But clearly, Lupita Nyong’o does not agree because her recent Lancome ad features her in bold, dark red lipstick.

The ad was for Lancome’s L’Absolu Rouge collection which features six new lipsticks. The lip colours range from a vivid pink to a rich red and somewhere in there is Mademoiselle Lupita, which is described as a slightly cool-toned, medium-dark burgundy with a matte finish.

Unsurprisingly, this is the shade Lupita wears in the campaign and it looked stunning against her skin tone. We hope she decided to make it her signature shade because it was absolute perfection!

The campaign was shot by Mert Alas and Marcus Piggot and we celebrate their artistic creativity. In a behind-the-scenes video, Lupita said “I like to experiment with makeup. Makeup for me is like the frame of an art piece. Wearing lipstick makes me feel well-dressed.”

Under Lancome’s Instagram post announcing the collaboration, numerous people have expressed how much they love the lipstick. One Black women wrote: “Gorgeous and black/brown skin friendly 😍

Others agree, with comments like: “Stunningly beautiful” and “Love the name too.. A beauty 😍😍

Some users have complained that the collection is not available for purchase in their respective countries. Lancome has promised to expand to more international countries soon. We hope that’s true!
