Nigerian cinema made a bold statement at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival, not just through its storytelling but also through its unmistakable presence on the red carpet. From a historic inclusion in the Un Certain Regard section to a wave of Nigerian films screening across various platforms, this year’s festival marked a high point for Nollywood’s global recognition.
In addition to this recognition, it was a celebration of culture and style. The Nile Group, in collaboration with Screen International and Screen Nigeria, hosted a pivotal industry event that brought together key figures such as Kunle Afolayan, Moses Babatope, Chioma Ude, Naz Onuzo, and Fumbi Ogunbawo. Their presence underscored Nollywood’s growing ambition and commitment to international partnerships.
Beyond the official spotlight, Nigerian films like “Osamede” by James Omokwe, “A White Christmas” by Regina Udalor, “God Knows Best” by Nicole Asinugo, “The Herd” by Daniel Etim Effiong, and Izu Ojukwu’s “Festac ‘77” resonated with diverse audiences, reinforcing Nigeria’s emerging voice in global cinema.
