Kiss Daniel’s #MyGchallange is what one would call a “rich man’s challenge.”
Originating as a promotion for the singer’s hit song, “My G,” the challenge involves showcasing wealth and fashion–lavish or not.
However, when the self-acclaimed OBO, Davido, hopped on the challenge, he proved that his “30 Billion Gang” moniker wasn’t just a name.
In a 30-second display of jaw dropping extravagance, the “Feel” singer, who recently became a proud father of twins with his wife Chioma in the USA, decided to make a grand statement while aboard his family-owned private jet on the way back to Nigeria.
And boy did he eat it up!
In just half a minute, Davido managed to capture a glimpse of his luxurious lifestyle with millions of dollars’ worth of items – mostly watches – setting new standards for the challenge that would be hard to beat.
Among the gold and glitter showcased were some truly unique and exceptional pieces. Without prejudice to other opulent items, the ones highlighted below are by virtue of their rich history or unrivaled exclusivity, worthy of a shout.
Bombardier Global 6500
Starting retail price: $47m
We start with the most ludicrously-priced piece Davido revealed: the Bombardier Global 6500.
Even though, technically, he never revealed it (as the video was shot inside the aircraft), it would be a crime to exclude it.
A product of Canadian aviation company, Bombardier, the Global 6500 is a masterpiece of modern aviation. The sleek exterior and aerodynamic lines shine in the glistering sun and already give an air of luxury.
But the devil is in the detailed interior.
The fine leathers, quality marble countertops, and exquisite wood veneers, designed by the best in the business, are all enclosed in a spacious cabin with enough room for a stylish dining space and a cozy lounge area for relaxation. And it’s a power horse.
With the new Rolls-Royce Pearl engines, range isn’t a problem as this beast can cover distances in excess of 12,000 km without refueling.
This aircraft strikes a perfect balance between range, speed, field performance, and comfort, delivering a travel experience fit for royalty.
It’s no wonder that actual royalty – of the business and fashion world – such as Kylie Jenner, who owns a $72 million Bombardier 6500 Global, and the Adani Group, home to India’s second-richest individual, have chosen this aviation masterpiece as a symbol of their status and taste for the finest things in life.
Richard Mille RM-011
Starting retail price: $250,000
Make no mistake, in the world of horology, renowned Swizz watchmakers Richard Mille reigns supreme. Their products are among the most expensive, often symbolizing the epitome of wealth in society.
So exorbitant are they that a nickname has been coined for their owners: “Billionaire’s handshake.” Given that the least expensive Richard Mille watch, the RM-005, carried a price tag of approximately $80,000 as of 2021, you can imagine just how valuable that handshake is.
The original Richard Mille RM-011 debuted in 2007 and quickly became the face of the brand’s avant-garde designs, futuristic aesthetics, and intricately skeletonized dials–specs that are reflected in the price.
Davido’s Richard Mille RM-011 handshake costs a mind-blowing $400,000! To put that into a local perspective, that’s about 400 million naira as of the time of authoring this article!
AP Royal Oak Stainless steel
Starting retail price: $30,000
Often credited with creating the trend for luxury sports watches, Audemars Piguet’s Royal Oak – a product of legendary Swizz watch designer, Gerald Genta – is over 50 years old.
Crafting this exceptional timepiece is a meticulous process, often taking up to a year, involving a team of highly skilled watchmakers who painstakingly handcraft each piece.
Certain aspects of the Royal Oak’s design contribute to its elegance and reliability. Clad in satin-finish stainless steel – a departure from the conventional use of precious metals in the realm of luxury watches – the self-winding dial sports a “tapisserie” pattern synonymous with watches of its caliber.
However, it’s worth noting that Audemars Piguet offers a wide range of Royal Oak models, including those made from different materials like rose gold or titanium, as well as variations with various complications such as chronographs, perpetual calendars, and tourbillons.
That being said, Davido’s piece comes at a whopping $60,000!
AP Royal Oak Black Face
Starting retail price: $80,000
Another coveted gem of Audemars Piguet, the Royal Oak Black Face model boasts a notable grande tapisserie-patterned black dial, complemented by white gold applied hour-markers.
This exquisite timepiece offers an impressive power reserve of approximately 60 hours and is water resistant up to 50 meters. While the price of this luxurious watch can vary, especially if customized, Davido proudly flaunts his piece, revealing a staggering price tag of $100,000!
Patek Phillipe Nautilus
Starting retail price: $100,000 – $200,000
Among Davido’s impressive watch collection, the Patek Philippe Nautilus stands out as one of the grandest pieces.
Born in the 1970s and designed by the famous Gerald Genta (often hailed as the Swiss god of horology), the Nautilus benefits from all the prestige that comes with having the surname “Patek.”
What makes owning a Patek Philippe Nautilus even more remarkable is the fact that the famous Swiss company is not particularly a fan of steel watches, instead leaning towards crafting watches from precious metals like gold and platinum. So, when it crafts in steel, it’s scarce. And the Nautilus models are notoriously so.
Yet, to Davido, it’s just one of his numerous wrists blings. He joins an exclusive list of celebrities – one that includes Ed Sheeran, Lionel Messi, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Sylvester Stallone, Conor McGregor, and Lewis Hamilton – as the proud owners of this iconic wristwatch.
Due to the combination of factors such as its rarity and customization, putting a solid price tag on the Patek Philippe Nautilus is never easy. But at least we know that anyone with these has to have really deep pocket.
Goyard Bag
Starting retail price: $750 – $10,000
Let’s veer away from watches for a moment to a lesser-known – but no less luxurious – accessory: Bags. And here the Goyard bag takes center stage.
You’d be forgiven if the name “Goyard” doesn’t ring a bell. Some extremely opulent items are only familiar to the top 10% and this French brand might just be one of them.
Maison Goyard, the esteemed French company, boasts a legacy of craftsmanship and elegance that spans nearly two centuries. Their secret sauce? Goyardine, a highly durable fabric made of hemp, linen, and cotton, making it water and stain-resistant.
As for the earlier mentioned low profile, it is very much deliberate. Goyard dumped the tried-and-true method of e-commerce, celebrity endorsements, or flashy advertising campaigns in favor of a more discreet approach to preserve its aura of exclusivity and desirability.
Despite its low profile, acquiring a Goyard bag is no easy feat. Goyard products are exclusively available for purchase in person at one of the brand’s 35 select locations worldwide.
Even when the money is readily available, prospective buyers may wait online for hours only to find out that the items are all sold out. To add to the mystique and prestige of Goyard, there are limitations on the number of bags a single shopper can purchase.
Rolex Rainbow Dial Oyster Perpetual
Starting retail price: $90,000
Back to timepieces–and the very last–our final culprit likes it colorful and vibrant.
Rolex’s Rainbow watches rank among the most exquisite offerings from the renowned company, and they grace the wrists of celebrities like Harry Kane, Adam Levine of Maroon 5, and our very own Davido.
Featuring 36 baguette-cut sapphires in the colors of the rainbow that line the bezel, 56 diamonds to beautifully embellish both the case and dial, and a white or yellow gold exterior, this timepiece is a walking investment.
Despite its ornate appearance, the Rainbow watch doesn’t compromise on functionality, boasting water resistance of up to 100 meters. However, all this fancy demands a hefty price tag.
A retail price of $97,000 might not sound much given the extravagance we’ve covered so far, but that’s just the base price! Collectors seeking these grandiose timepieces on the pre-owned market should be prepared to part with sums ranging from $450,000 to well over $1,000,000!
Davido’s costs $600,000 making it the most expensive item on his My G challenge – besides the jet, of course!
