Expect No New Music From Davido… He’s Going Back to School

There are certain announcements music fans would gladly return to sender. High on that list: your favorite artist casually pressing pause on new music.

Fans of Adele know the drill all too well with those famously long gaps between albums that feel like emotional endurance tests and Rihanna supporters — known as the Navy — have practically built a support group around it. Now, it seems the Davido faithful (“30bg”) might be initiated into the same club.

“No new music for now joor… I have to many hits,” he replied in a clip during his Osun state visit when asked.

On a chat with students on his visit to Adeleke University (his father’s establishment), he also reiterated, saying “I’m on a musical break.”

There might be a reason for all this, though: school (yes, you read right!). Davido is hitting the books once again, this time for a Master’s Degree at an unnamed university in the United Kingdom sometime next year.

It might sting, but Davido’s recent run of hits makes a compelling case for his brief retreat. His “With You,” featuring Omah Lay, has crossed the 100 million streams mark, while “Nakupenda” with Zlatan continues to hold its own as a club staple. In other words, he isn’t exactly leaving anyone starving thanks to a catalog holding down the fort.

The 33-year-old’s last full project landed in May 2023, and while that might not sound like an eternity, in today’s fast-paced streaming era, it’s enough to make fans restless. Especially when peers are keeping the pipeline flowing.

For now, 2026 is a quiet one for OBO as opposed to Asake, Omah Lay and Wizkid. There’s already something on the horizon: a collaborative project with Chris Brown reportedly slated for 2027. It’s a long wait, yes, but one that hints at a bigger play rather than a disappearance.
