Two-time Grammy winner, Tems, graced the cover of Billboard Magazine’s latest issue, reflecting on her meteoric rise and her unforgettable night at the 2025 Grammy Awards.

Speaking to Billboard’s Heran Mano, the 29-year-old details her mental state leading up to the win. Her breakout single, “Love Me Jeje,” won Best African Music Performance, marking only the second time the award had been presented in the category’s history.

“I was convincing myself it’s probably not me anyway. I was like, ‘Let me just sit at the back. If they don’t call me, I’ll just quickly leave’,” she says. Alas, she won, and she recalls regretting her decision to sit so far back as she raced to the stage.

Still, the Grammy itself wasn’t the highlight of her evening. That came when her mother met Hollywood icon Will Smith.

“She saw Will Smith and she was like, ‘Will Smith, wow!’… He was sitting at a table and was like, ‘Hey, nice to meet you!’ He was talking to her. Just giving her that experience was amazing.”

As for what’s next, Tems remains open to new directions. While her music continues to push boundaries, she’s also eyeing film—not just through soundtracks, but possibly by stepping in front of the camera.
