The 2025 MTV Video Music Awards, popularly known as the VMAs, will be broadcast live from the UBS Arena on Sept. 7, 2025, marking a significant shift in the award show’s history.
For the first time, the VMAs will air on CBS. This shift is a strategic move in the award show’s marketing, as CBS is home to other prestigious award shows like the Tony Awards and the American Music Awards. With this powerful change, the VMAs can broaden its reach and attract a wider audience beyond its core music fanbase.
The VMAs will also air simultaneously on MTV and be available for streaming on Paramount+, ensuring multiple ways for viewers to access the music event. Additionally, the annual one-hour live pre-show will be broadcast across all Paramount Media Networks.
While no host, nominees, or performers have been announced for the 2025 ceremony, anticipation is already building for the “biggest music party of the year.” The VMAs are known for celebrity sightings, unforgettable music performances, and boundary-pushing fashion. Who could forget Nicki Minaj’s stuffed animal ensemble, channeling her Roman alter ego, or Lady Gaga’s infamous “meat dress,” which sparked debates among animal rights activists for years?
With its new broadcasting partnership and a history of delivering memorable moments, the upcoming VMAs promises to be a highlight in the music industry’s calendar.
