The African entertainment landscape is abuzz with anticipation following the revelation of nominees for the 10th AMVCA, aired across all Africa Magic channels on Sunday, March 24, 2024.
The organizers have curated an exceptional lineup reflecting the diversity and creativity prevalent in African cinema and television, promising a memorable event scheduled for May 10th and 11th, 2024.
Dr. Busola Tejumola, Executive Head of Content and Channels, West Africa, MultiChoice, expressed delight at the outstanding quality of entries received for this milestone edition. The process of shortlisting nominees proved challenging due to the sheer excellence displayed by filmmakers from across the continent.
Entries for the prestigious awards were solicited from January 15th to February 14th, 2024, inviting submissions from filmmakers whose productions were publicly exhibited or broadcast between December 1st, 2022, and December 31st, 2023.
Notably, performance awards have been streamlined into Best Actor and Best Actress categories, totaling 27 categories, including non-voting, audience voting, and recognition awards.
The nominees span various categories, showcasing exceptional talent and creativity. Leading the pack with 12 nominations is Tolu Ajayi’s “Over the Bridge,” followed closely by CJ Fiery Obasi’s “Mami Wata” with over 11 nominations. Other notable contenders include “Breath of Life,” “Jagun Jagun – The Warrior,” “Afamefuna,” and “Blood Vessel.”
In the acting categories, acclaimed talents such as Wale Ojo, Stan Nze, Segilola Ogidan, Lucie Debay, and Omowunmi Dada vie for top honors. Additionally, Timini Egbuson and Funke Akindele receive recognition for their performances in “A Tribe Called Judah,” which garnered five nominations in total.
Voting is now open until April 28th, 2024, providing fans with the opportunity to support their favorite talents and productions. To participate, viewers can visit the Africa Magic website and cast their votes.
In a notable change earlier this year, the Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Supporting Actor, and Best Supporting Actress categories will now be determined by a jury instead of public votes, highlighting the commitment to recognizing excellence in the industry.
The 10th AMVCA edition is presented by Africa Magic in collaboration with lead sponsor Amstel Malta, alongside Pepsi, Promasidor, Martell, Tecno, Verve, QuickTeller, Tiger Beer, MTN, and Indomie.
The highly anticipated award show is scheduled for May 11, which will be broadcast live across all Africa Magic channels on DStv and GOtv.
