In response to a comment on her social media handle, Austen-Peters acknowledged the financial challenges faced by the arts industry in Nigeria, saying, “You are correct, funding is one of the biggest challenges we have in the arts.”

Austen-Peters elaborated on her approach to financing filmmaking, contrasting it with Hollywood budgets. She expressed gratitude for Netflix’s support of Nigerian content and independent producers.

“I don’t hold back when directing. Whatever resources I have available, I use it all and add to it if needed. We are miles apart in terms of available funds compared to other countries and projects, but to think that with the little we have, we are creating this much? Netflix is supportive of Nigerian content and some independent Nigerian Exec Producers. Just imagine if we had Hollywood’s budget?” she asked.

She also highlighted the need for greater appreciation of filmmakers and the extensive effort required to create authentic settings and costumes. “I think filmmakers need to be celebrated even more. The set was built from scratch in Epe, and in relation to costumes, I have a costume warehouse I have amassed over the course of directing theatre,” she added.

Meanwhile, the Terra Kulture founder Bolanle Austen-Peters is receiving widespread praise and admiration following the release of her latest film, “House of Ga’a.” The film, now streaming on Netflix, quickly climbed to the top of Nigeria’s Netflix charts.
