Clarissa, directed by Arie Esiri and Chuko Esiri, has been selected for the 51st Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), where it will make its North American premiere ahead of its December 11 theatrical release.
The Nigerian-American production is among 64 films unveiled across TIFF’s Gala and Special Presentations programs, joining a slate that features both established and emerging filmmakers from around the world.
Earlier this year, Clarissa premiered in the Directors’ Fortnight section of the 2026 Cannes Film Festival before being acquired for distribution by Neon.
The film stars Sophie Okonedo, David Oyelowo, India Amarteifio, Ayo Edebiri, Toheeb Jimoh, and Joke Silva.
Running from September 10 to 20, this year’s Toronto International Film Festival will open with Being Heumann, directed by Siân Heder. The program also includes new works from filmmakers such as Anton Corbijn, John Madden, Chris Rock, Peter Farrelly, Jesse Eisenberg, Mike Leigh, Courteney Cox, and Rebel Wilson.
Alongside Venice and Telluride, TIFF remains one of the industry’s most influential autumn festivals, serving as a major platform for awards contenders and high-profile international releases.
Clarissa is scheduled to open in cinemas on December 11.
