The DFI announced an open call for animated projects to participate in its annual Pitch and Finance Forum. Selected participants will undergo a mentorship programme designed to prepare them for live pitching sessions and meetings during the 2026 edition of the Durban FilmMart.

The call is open to animation projects currently in development — including both feature-length and episodic works across fiction and documentary formats — from African filmmakers and those in the diaspora.

At least one of the three key creatives — the producer, writer, or director — must be from Africa or of African descent. Selected participants will take part in an online masterclass and mentorship series before attending the Durban FilmMart in person.

Now in its 17th edition, the Durban FilmMart remains Africa’s leading film financing and co-production market, supporting filmmakers across the continent through project development and networking opportunities.

Applications are open through the DFI website until October 31.
