Diezani Alison-Madueke is Thrust Back into the Spotlight in New Documentary

Former Nigerian minister and disgraced politician Diezani Alison-Madueke is set to be the center of media attention once again thanks to the docu-series about her life and activities as Nigeria’s former minister.

Directed by Nigerian filmmaker and TV host Chude Jideonwo, in collaboration with Ynaija Studios and Capital Film Productions, the docu-series offers an in-depth look into who Alison-Madueke really is and how she ended up being one of the most powerful women in the country. It will also chronicle her rise and fall from a respected minister to a disgraced politician whose corrupt activities made international headlines and sent shockwaves throughout the country.

The docu-series promises sit-down interviews with national and international law enforcement agents, those who knew Alison-Madueke and worked with her, along with a seemingly surprising interview from the woman of the hour herself who has allegedly not spoken to the media “in eight years.”

The trailer for “Is it Your Money?” was announced by Jideonwo via his social media handles. According to the filmmaker, the film couldn’t have been possible without the “100+ member team” working quietly to bring this appalling story to light. With their help, they were able to trace and confirm “alleged loot across 15 jurisdictions,” some of which are in the USA, the United Kingdom, and Nigeria.

Alison-Madueke held two ministerial positions- Minister of Transportation and Mines & Steel Development-under the regime of late President Umaru Musa Yar’ Adua from 2007 to 2010. She subsequently received another ministerial appointment from former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan as the Minister of Petroleum Resources, a position she held from 2010 to 2015. During that time, she became the first female president of OPEC and broke barriers for women in the petroleum sector.

Her legal troubles officially began in 2015 when allegations of her corrupt activities and financial misconduct made national news. From then on, she has been charged by courts in Nigeria, the USA, and the UK for crimes ranging from money laundering to bribery.

Along with the charges, Alison-Madueke has been accused of recklessly spending government funds on personal frivolities like properties, luxury holidays, yachts, and designer items. The trailer mentioned that she had “personally overseen the stealing of 6 billion dollars”
