Disney’s live-action adaptation of the 1997 animated film “Hercules” is reportedly progressing with a fresh narrative and creative team.
Directed by Guy Ritchie, produced by the Russo Brothers, and scripted by Dave Callaham, the project promises a modern retelling of the Greek demigod’s tale.
The film, reportedly titled “Hades”, shifts the story’s focus to the perspective of its antagonist, echoing Disney’s approach in “Maleficent”. This narrative decision offers a new take on the mythological world, exploring the events of “Hercules” through the eyes of its scheming villain.
Incorporating contemporary elements, the adaptation will draw inspiration from TikTok culture while blending iconic songs from the original film with new musical numbers.
Details about the cast remain undisclosed, but speculation is rife. Taron Egerton and Austin Butler are rumored contenders for the role of Hercules. Ariana Grande and Dua Lipa are fan favorites for Megara, while Danny DeVito has expressed interest in reprising his role as the grumpy satyr Phil. Michael Keaton is reportedly in the mix to play Hades, praised for his ability to embody the character’s wit and unpredictability.
Rumors of a live-action “Hercules” remake have circulated since 2020, though the project stalled in development until recent changes aligned the script with its new villain-centered vision.
The original “Hercules” remains a beloved cult classic, celebrated for its humor, gospel-inspired soundtrack, and innovative take on Greek mythology. This upcoming adaptation aims to honor that legacy while offering audiences a fresh perspective on the demigod’s journey.
