A short new film titled “Dust to Dreams” from EbonyLife Films and the African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank) is currently in production, with British actor and director Idris Elba at the helm.

Set in Lagos, Nigeria, “Dust to Dreams” will tell the story of a mother and daughter’s relationship as the daughter meets her father for the first time. The narrative explores broader themes around family bonds, identity, and reconciliation.

The film boasts an accomplished cast including internationally acclaimed musician, Seal Henry Olusegun, Nse Ikpe-Etim, Atlanta Bridget Johnson, Constance Olatunde, and Eku Edewor. It is being executively produced by Mo Abudu, CEO of EbonyLife Media.

“Dust to Dreams” stems from a collaboration between Abudu’s EbonyLife Films and Afreximbank’s Creative Africa Nexus (CANEX) program, an initiative focused on driving entrepreneurship and creative expression across the African continent.

According to the production partners, the short film aims to deliver a resonant, relatable story for audiences while showcasing the talents of its Nigerian cast and filmmakers like the acclaimed Elba, who is directing.

Further details, including release plans and distribution partners for “Dust to Dreams,” are expected to be announced in the coming months as the project moves through post-production.

The short film represents the latest high-profile venture for EbonyLife, the film production company behind popular projects like the TV series “Castle & Castle” as it continues expanding.
