Efunroye: The Unicorn, the latest Nollywood historical epic, grossed ₦38.4 million in its first full week at the Nigerian box office.
According to figures released by the Cinema Exhibitors Association of Nigeria, the film debuted in third place behind Michael, which earned ₦181.8 million in its second weekend, and The Devil Wears Prada, which opened with ₦79.8 million.
Directed by Abbey Lanre, Adebayo Tijani and Tope Adebayo Salami, Efunroye: The Unicorn stars Fathia Williams, who also serves as producer.
The film chronicles the rise of Madam Efunroye Tinubu, the 19th-century Yoruba merchant, political figure and slave trader known for her influence in Lagos and Abeokuta during the colonial era.
The cast also includes Tope Adebayo, Kamo State, Eniola Ajao, Odunlade Adekola, Mercy Aigbe, Ibrahim Yekini, Foluke Daramola, Ibrahim Chatta, Muyiwa Ademola, Saheed Balogun, Femi Adebayo, Femi Branch, Taiwo Hassan, Omowunmi Ajiboye, Yemi Solade and Taiwo Ibikunle.
