The Emerge Story Company has announced the return of its annual storytelling conference, with a focus on celebrating African female storytellers in honor of Women’s History Month.

The third edition of this conference is scheduled to take place from March 4 to 8, 2024, and it aims to highlight the diversity and creativity in the art of African storytelling by women on the continent.

The 2024 conference promises an extensive program featuring workshops, masterclasses, short film screenings, and panel discussions led by industry experts across Africa. Renowned figures such as Joke Silva, Lala Akindoju, Melissa Adeyemo, Sandra Madu, Busisiwe Ntintili, Ikeade Oriade, Khalid EL-Jelailati, Ethel Codjoe Amissah, and others will contribute their expertise.

In a groundbreaking collaboration, Emerge has partnered with Final Draft, the industry’s leading screenwriting software, to provide a free license to 25 participants. This initiative aims to support and empower African storytellers.

Additionally, Emerge introduces the “SheWrites Intensive Lab,” a three-week program for story development, focusing on first-draft scripts for short films. Three selected participants will work closely with experienced story consultants to enhance their storytelling skills.

At the program’s conclusion, one outstanding participant will be awarded a $1,000 production grant to bring their creative ideas to life.
