Funke Akindele’s “Aiyetoro Town” Returns With Season 2 on June 22

Nigerian filmmaker Funke Akindele has announced that Season 2 of her comedy series, “Aiyetoro Town,” will premiere on June 22, marking its return after a five-year hiatus.

The new season will stream exclusively on FAANtv’s YouTube channel, Akindele confirmed across her social media platforms. She promised viewers “laughter, drama and life lessons” in the long-awaited continuation.

“Five years ago, we brought you ‘Aiyetoro Town’ Season 1 and now we are back with Season 2,” she wrote. Akindele also credited her cast and crew as “the real MVPs” for their dedication to the project.

The news comes on the heels of her recent box office success, “Everybody Loves Jenifa,” which grossed over ₦1 billion in just 19 days. It has since become West Africa’s highest-grossing film with a total of ₦1.6 billion.

Akindele, popularly known as Jenifa, is Nigeria’s most successful filmmaker. She holds six Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards and remains the most-nominated actress and filmmaker in AMVCA history. Her breakout role in “Jenifa” earned her the Africa Movie Academy Award for Best Actress in a Leading Role.

Known for her dominance in the comedy genre, she won Best Actress for her Comedy films at the AMVCAs in 2016, 2017, 2020, and 2022.

Her production company continues to expand its footprint across platforms, with “Aiyetoro Town” Season 2 marking another significant release.

The new season will premiere on Sunday, June 22, exclusively on FAANtv’s YouTube channel.
