Ibraheem Lateef Adebayo and Adeola Olushola Imo are set to lead the upcoming epic drama series Akerengbe, starring as Ifatona and Digilola, respectively.
Directed by Oladinran Dolapo, popularly known as Pinzu, the series was filmed over 10 days at Africhatta Film Village in Oyo State and is produced by Funke Tanimola Mercy under MercyFlawlessMedia.
For Adebayo, who has been acting professionally since 2020, the series marks his first star-leading role in a Nollywood production, according to the actor.
His preparation for Ifatona also required him to engage with elements of Yoruba spiritual tradition. Adebayo said he had to learn Odu Ifa and chants to prepare for the character.
The actor has not disclosed extensive details about the series’ plot, but his preparation suggests a role rooted in Yoruba cultural and traditional elements.
The production was shot at Africhatta Film Village, the film facility established by actor and filmmaker Ibraheem Chatta in Oyo State. The 74-acre location features traditional houses, mud structures, a market space, horses and other settings designed for film productions, particularly stories requiring indigenous or period environments.
Africhatta has previously hosted productions including, Lisabi and Iyalode, with filmmakers using its traditional architecture and purpose-built spaces to recreate Yoruba settings.
Akerengbe the Series is produced by Funke Tanimola Mercy under MercyFlawlessMedia. Further details about its release platform and premiere date are yet to be announced.
