Ifeoma Chukwuogo’s “Phoenix Fury” Receives Another Festival Selection
Nigerian filmmaker Ifeoma Chukwuogo’s directorial debut, Phoenix Fury, has been officially selected for the 16th edition of the Silicon Valley African Film Festival (SVAFF) in California.
The selection comes a year after its award-winning debut at the Africa International Film Festival (AFRIFF), where it clinched Best Film and Best Director.
Phoenix Fury, which also earned a nomination at the 2025 Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA), features an ensemble cast including Uzoamaka Power, Onyinye Odokoro, Richard Mofe-Damijo, Joseph Momodu, and Ama K. Abebrese.
The drama follows Ewura-Ama, a widow who inherits a luxury resort in Ghana. Her life takes an unexpected turn after a newly elected governor from Nigeria checks in.
Joining Phoenix Fury in SVAFF’s 2025 lineup are other Nigerian titles such as Omotola Jalade Ekeinde’s Mother’s Love, Ella Chikezie’s In Her Shoes, and James Omokwe’s Osamede. The festival will screen 92 films from 35 countries.
This year’s edition of SVAFF is scheduled for October 9 to 12 in San Jose, California.
