Award-winning filmmaker Prince Daniel’s Kaka, starring Yakubu Mohammed and Fa’iza Abdullahi, is set to expand beyond the festival circuit with an upcoming release on Amazon Prime Video.
The distribution milestone follows the film’s festival run, where it earned more than 20 nominations and over 10 awards. Among its notable recognitions are Best Overall Film and Best Social Message at the Warien Rose International Film Festival.
Daniel, who also directed Mai Martaba, Nigeria’s official submission for the 2024 Academy Awards, shared the update alongside a list of Kaka’s local and international festival recognitions.
The film centres on education, resilience and the tension between tradition and personal ambition. It follows Kaka, a young village girl who dreams of becoming a nurse and hopes to put an end to her grandmother’s dangerous traditional midwifery practices.

As she pursues her ambition, Kaka must confront the expectations surrounding her and decide whether to hold on to her dream or give it up.
The film has travelled across festivals in Nigeria, the United States, United Kingdom, Canada and the Netherlands, building recognition for Daniel’s storytelling rooted in Hausa culture and communities.
While a specific release date for Kaka on Prime Video has yet to be announced, the upcoming streaming release marks the film’s next stage of distribution and makes it accessible to audiences beyond its festival run.
Kaka is coming soon to Amazon Prime Video.
