Grammy winner and hip-hop icon Kendrick Lamar is the official headliner of the Super Bowl LIX Halftime Show in 2025.
The announcement was made by the National Football League (NFL) on September 8 via their official social media handles, along with the date of the upcoming sporting event — February 9, 2025.
Reacting to the news, Lamar posted a short video on his social media platforms, encouraging fans and football fanatics to watch his performance and “wear your best dress too, even if you’re watching from home.”
This performance will mark Lamar’s second appearance on the halftime stage. His first was in 2022 when he performed as a guest alongside headliners Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Eminem, and Mary J. Blige during the LVI Halftime Show.
Lamar will follow in the footsteps of other hip-hop pioneers who have graced the football stage with their electrifying performances, including Eminem, Dr. Dre, Nelly, Queen Latifah, and Missy Elliott.
The Compton-born rapper has had a remarkable year, despite not releasing a new album. His Billboard number-one song, “Not Like Us,” became a cultural phenomenon thanks to his highly publicized rap beef with fellow rapper Drake earlier in the year. The song spent 18 weeks on the charts.
Lamar is known for his spitfire lyricism and his focus on themes such as race, gun violence, and inequality. He has solidified his place as one of the greatest rappers of the 21st century, earning him seventeen Grammy Awards and the prestigious Pulitzer Prize for Music.
Since his debut in 2011, Lamar has released five studio albums and charted over a hundred songs across all Billboard charts.
The 2025 Super Bowl will take place in New Orleans at the Caesars Superdome. The halftime show is sponsored by the NFL, Roc Nation, and Apple Music.
