Kerry Washington is set to star in and executive produce What Remains, a thriller drama series in development at Hulu.
Based on Wendy Walker’s 2023 novel, the series centres on Detective Elise Sutton, a cold case specialist whose life begins to unravel after she kills a disturbed man in the line of duty.
As she struggles to come to terms with the incident, Elise reconnects with a man she believes she saved that day, only to realise he may not be who he claims to be, setting off a tense pursuit.
The adaptation is written by Chris Luccy and directed by McG, with production led by 20th Television and Kapital Entertainment.
Washington executive produces through Simpson Street alongside Pilar Savone, with Aaron Kaplan also producing for Kapital Entertainment. McG, Mary Viola and Corey Marsh serve as executive producers for Wonderland Sound and Vision.
The project continues Washington’s working relationship with Hulu, following Little Fires Everywhere and UnPrisoned, both of which she starred in and executive produced.
Beyond this series, she most recently led the Apple TV+ project Imperfect Women and is attached to upcoming titles including Animals, directed by Ben Affleck.
Walker, the author of What Remains, is known for psychological thrillers such as All Is Not Forgotten, Emma in the Night and The Night Before.
