Kemi “Lala” Akindoju will direct and produce a stage adaptation of Don’t Tell Daddy What Happened in Lagos, Yemi Odunfa’s bestselling book, with the author also involved in the production.

The play is scheduled for January 3, 2027, at the AGIP Recital Hall, MUSON Centre, Lagos, with performances at 3 p.m. and 7 p.m.

The story follows a family preparing for a memorial dinner after the death of an Archbishop. Beneath the family’s respectable public image, however, secrets threaten to surface. When the mother arrives in Lagos determined to protect her late husband’s legacy, she becomes caught up in a series of chaotic events.

Blending humour with themes of grief, the play explores the tension between public faith and private lives, examining the complications that emerge when a family attempts to preserve its reputation amid personal crises.

Her casting work includes the Sundance-winning short film Lizard, Disney’s animated series Iwájú and Eyimofe. She also worked on My Father’s Shadow, which became the first Nigerian film selected for the Cannes Film Festival’s Official Selection in 2025.
