The Disney live-action remake is the only studio film to cross the billion-dollar mark in 2025.
“Lilo & Stitch” Grosses Over $1 Billion at Global Box Office
Disney’s live-action “Lilo & Stitch” remake has become the first Hollywood film of 2025 to cross the $1 billion mark at the worldwide box office.
After eight weekends in theaters, the family sci-fi comedy has earned $416.1 million in North America and $584.8 million internationally, bringing its global total to $1.001 billion. It is the only studio film to achieve this milestone so far this year.
The film made an impressive debut in late May, grossing $183 million domestically and $341 million globally in its first four days. It also set a new record for the biggest Memorial Day weekend opening in history. “Lilo & Stitch” maintained the No. 1 spot for three consecutive weekends and is one of only two films this year—alongside Warner Bros.’ “A Minecraft Movie”—to surpass $400 million at the domestic box office.

Directed by Dean Fleischer Camp and produced by Rideback, the film follows a blue extraterrestrial creature who crash-lands in Hawaii and is adopted by a young girl and her older sister. Maia Kealoha makes her film debut as Lilo, while original “Lilo & Stitch” writer-director Chris Sanders reprises his role as the voice of Stitch. The cast also includes Sydney Elizabeth Agudong, Billy Magnussen, Hannah Waddingham, Courtney B. Vance, Zach Galifianakis, and original cast members such as Amy Hill, Tia Carrere, and Jason Scott Lee in supporting roles.
As previously reported by The Nollywood Reporter (TNR), the film opened in Nigeria with ₦8 million but quickly dropped out of the top six on the weekend box office chart. However, it saw a brief boost in ticket sales during Children’s Day celebrations.
The live-action remake’s box office success has reignited global interest in the franchise, driving renewed viewership of the original animated film and related content on Disney platforms. A sequel is already in development, with more adventures promised for the beloved characters.
