Marvel releases Teaser Trailer for “Thunderbolts,” an “Anti-Avengers” Film

The upcoming film will feature a unique squad of Marvel villains on a government mission.

Marvel Studios has officially released the teaser trailer for “Thunderbolts,” a notable addition to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) Phase Five lineup, scheduled to hit theaters internationally on May 2, 2025.

 

The teaser, unveiled on September 24, introduces audiences to a new team that diverges from the traditional heroes of the franchise.

 

“Thunderbolts” explores the story of Marvel villains recruited by the government for a covert operation. The team includes former Black Widow Yelena Belova, Russian soldier Red Guardian, the object manipulator Ghost, U.S. Special Agent John Walker, and weapon specialist Taskmaster, who must collaborate to achieve their mission while navigating the dangers posed by a bounty on their heads.

 

The Winter Soldier (Bucky Barnes)

Adding to the excitement, the trailer features the return of fan-favorite Bucky Barnes, previously known as the Winter Soldier. While his role within the Thunderbolts remains ambiguous, his presence is likely to draw longtime Marvel enthusiasts seeking a sense of nostalgia.

 

Notably, It remains uncertain whether iconic characters such as Iron Man, Thor, Hulk, or Black Widow will make appearances in the Thunderbolts storyline.

 

However, Scarlett Johansson, who portrayed Black Widow in previous MCU films, is listed as an executive producer for this project.

 

“Thunderbolts” boasts a star-studded cast, featuring actors reprising their roles from earlier Marvel films and television series. Sebastian Stan returns as Bucky Barnes, alongside Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova, Wyatt Russell as John Walker, David Harbour as Red Guardian, Hannah John-Kamen as Ghost, Julia Louis-Dreyfus as Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, and Olga Kurylenko as Taskmaster. The cast also includes Geraldine Viswanathan and Lewis Pullman.

 

Black Widow (Yelena Belova)

Directed by Jake Schreier and produced by Marvel Studios’ president Kevin Feige, the film marks the thirty-sixth installment in the MCU and concludes the Phase Five series.
