Trinidadian-American rapper, Nicki Minaj has unfortunately pushed back the release of her fourth album, “Pink Friday 2.” She made the shocking announcement on Instagram live recently much to the dismay of her fan base, “The Barbz” who have been waiting for a full-length project from the rapper for five years.

Instead of the initial Oct. 20 release date, the album was moved to Nov. 17, and now it will be released on Dec. 8, the rapper’s birthday.

The Queen of Rap gave no explanation for the delay, but many speculate that she took a step back from the Nov. 17 release because her mentor and friend Lil Wayne will be dropping his collaborative project, “WELCOME 2 COLLEGEGROVE”, with fellow rapper 2 Chainz on that date. Out of loyalty and respect for their bond, she decided on a release date in December.

Much fanfare and media attention has surrounded “Pink Friday 2.” The project is the female rap album with the purest sales in 2023 even with just pre-sale. It is also reportedly the highest-selling female rap album of 2023, surpassing Doja Cat’s “Scarlet.”

To give fans a taste of what the album is bringing to the table, she released the melancholic pop single “Last Time I Saw You” in August and the Drake and Chief Keef-assisted banger “For All the Barbz” in October. Still in the spirit of promotion, she performed “Last Time I Saw You” for the first time on the world stage at the MTV VMAs in September and released two exclusive vinyl album covers.

Whatever Minaj’s reasons are for pushing back the release date of “Pink Friday 2” we can expect nothing but a quality body of work from the rapper. Bearing the weighty title of Queen of Rap did not come by chance as she has proven herself to be distinct from her peers in terms of versatility, flow switching, and mastery of the rap genre.

2010’s “Pink Friday” took the world by storm, stringing out timeless hits like “Moment 4 Life”, “Super Bass”, and “Fly.” The second version, which has been described by the rapper as her “favorite work till date,” is poised to have the same impact. With its ratings on the international charts, despite its delayed release, it is safe to say that “Pink Friday 2” is off to a great start.
