NTA, Natives Filmworks, ITK to Remake Iconic Series “Cock Crow at Dawn”
The Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), Natives Filmworks, and Innovative Television Kontent (ITK) have signed an exclusive co-production agreement to remake the classic Nigerian television series Cock Crow at Dawn.
The deal, signed on October 6, 2025, brings together NTA Director-General Salihu Abdulhamid Dembos, Natives Filmworks CEO Steve Gukas, and ITK CEO Dimbo Atiya to produce 104 episodes of the show.
Production is expected to begin in Jos, Plateau State, in 2026, with a writers’ room opening later this month. The remake aims to capture the heart of the original 1970s series, which became a household favourite for its socially conscious storytelling and memorable characters.
According to Gukas, the project offers an opportunity to “showcase how far the industry has come since the first run of the series.” Dembos described it as “a 360 moment” for Nigerian television, while Atiya said the remake “will be a game-changer for series productions in Nigeria.”
The original Cock Crow at Dawn helped launch the careers of Sadiq Daba, Ene Oloja, and George Menta. The new adaptation seeks to honour that legacy while connecting with a new generation of viewers.
