Nollywood actor Olumide Oworu has weighed in on the ongoing conversation about the industry’s distribution challenges, suggesting that increased collaboration is key to progress.

In a recent interview on Rubbin Minds, aired on May 26, Oworu reflected on the future of Nollywood in the age of digital platforms, especially the growing wave of releases on YouTube.

The actor, who began his career at the age of six, said he is optimistic about the direction the industry is headed, noting the vast potential and opportunities available to Nigerian filmmakers.

“I’m not worried. I’m actually more excited to see where it goes because there’s potential and opportunities. For me, I think the question is whether or not there are more people willing to collaborate,” he said.

Oworu, known for his roles in “The Johnsons” and “Everyday People,” stressed that a major issue in Nollywood is the lack of collective effort. This, he said, often gives the impression that the industry is not working toward sustainable growth.

“Who better to get our stories out there than us? That is only going to happen if we are on the same page, if nobody is trying to get the better edge over someone else, but instead ensuring that the industry itself scales up.”

With this recent take, Oworu joins a growing list of Nigerian creatives, including filmmaker James Abinibi — who have spoken openly about the pressing need to fix Nollywood’s distribution ecosystem.
