Mzansi Magic has officially initiated production for its upcoming series, “Queen Modjadji,” drawing inspiration from the famed Balobedu legendary rainmaker, the inaugural Queen Modjadji, whose lineage has governed South Africa’s Lobedu clan for centuries.
The narrative unfolds through the life of the first rain queen, born into the throne with a divine ancestral gift capable of dispelling a prolonged drought. Queen Modjadji’s reign marked the birth and succession of hereditary queens, elevating the Balobedu royalty to esteemed status among Africa’s revered dynasties due to their ability to command rain.
To ensure an authentic portrayal of Balobedu culture and traditions, the production team, spearheaded by producer Duma Ndlovu, has engaged in extensive research and consultations with tribe leaders and other pertinent stakeholders.
Presented by Multichoice, the series aligns with Mzansi Magic’s commitment to fostering home-grown, original African storytelling, particularly in African languages.
“Queen Modjadji” is set to premiere later this year, with the exact date yet to be announced, exclusively on Mzansi Magic, available on DStv channel 161. As anticipation builds for this rainmaking masterpiece, viewers can catch a glimpse here.
