Nominations for the 2026 American Music Awards have been announced, with African artists once again securing a strong presence across major categories. The list highlights continued global recognition for Afrobeats and African pop acts on one of music’s biggest fan-voted stages.

South African singer Tyla leads the African contingent with four nominations. She is nominated for Best Afrobeats Artist, where she faces competition from Nigeria’s Rema, Wizkid, and Burna Boy, alongside Ghanaian-American singer Moliy.

Tyla is also nominated for Best Female R&B Artist, Best Music Video, and Social Song of the Year for her track “CHANEL.” Her multiple nods position her as one of the standout African acts in this year’s awards cycle.

In another category, Rema expands his presence beyond Afrobeats with a nomination for Best Hip-Hop Song for his collaboration with Gunna titled “wgft.” He is nominated alongside global acts including Drake, Cardi B, Playboi Carti, and The Weeknd.

One notable omission from this year’s list is Tems, who was not nominated despite a strong release cycle. Her recent work includes her contribution to Dave’s “Raindance” and her seven-track project Love Is a Kingdom.

Globally, Taylor Swift leads the nominations with eight nods, followed by Morgan Wallen, Olivia Dean, Sabrina Carpenter, and Sombr, who each earned seven nominations. Alex Warren and Lady Gaga follow with six nominations apiece.

The American Music Awards, first established in 1974 and produced by Dick Clark Productions, is one of the few major music ceremonies determined entirely by public vote. Winners are decided through fan engagement across the AMA website and social platforms.
